Swimming Lessons

Learning to swim is an important life skill that helps keep people safe in and around the water. The City of Orillia offers swimming lessons taught by certified instructors to help participants build confidence, develop lifelong water safety skills, and discover a love for swimming.

Lessons are offered at the Orillia Recreation Centre and at Couchiching Beach during the summer. Programs are organized by age, and below you can explore the appropriate level for your child and what they will learn at each stage.

The City offers both Semi-Private and Private swimming lessons. Siblings or friends may participate together.

Report Cards and Level Placement

Accessing your Child's Report Card

Access your child’s swim lesson progress report through the SwimGen report card system.

To log in, enter the swimmer’s date of birth (DD/MM/YYYY) followed by their initials.
Example: Joe Doe born August 13, 2018 → 13/08/2018JD

Swim badges can be purchased at Customer Service at the Orillia Recreation Centre.

You can check your child’s previous level by:

Logging into your online SUN Registration Account and selecting My Registrations
Calling the Orillia Recreation Centre Front Desk at 705-325-4386 (4FUN)
Reviewing your child’s last report card

All swimmers are assessed on the first day of lessons. If the swimmer is not in the correct level, the instructor may recommend transferring to another class.

Once a child turns six, they move from Preschool levels to Swimmer levels.

Preschool 3 → Swimmer 1
Preschool 4 → Swimmer 2 (Shallow)
Preschool 5 → Swimmer 2 (Deep)
