General Guidelines
- Children 9 years and under must be accompanied by a guardian at least 14 years of age who is responsible for their direct supervision.
- Lifeguards may ask any swimmer to complete a swim test, regardless of age. If unsuccessful, swimmers must remain in the shallow end.
- Groups entering the facility with swimmers of various ages must abide by the admission standard pertaining to the youngest swimmer, regardless of result of swim test. (ex. A 6-year-old and 9-year-old must both be supervised at a 2:1 ratio).
- Swim Test requirements:
- Swim 25 metres continuously with face in the water
- Tread water for 1 minute
- Swim Test

Children Ages 0 to 6
- Must have a supervising guardian in the water within arm’s reach and remain in the shallow end.
- Without lifejackets: 1 guardian per 2 children (maximum).
- With lifejackets: 1 guardian per 4 children (maximum).
- Children within this age group are restricted from deep end use regardless of swimming ability or use of a personal floatation device.
Children Ages 7 to 9
Successful Completion of a Swim Test:
- Must a have a supervising guardian on the pool deck in swim attire or in the on-deck viewing gallery.
- 1 guardian per 6 children (maximum). All children must pass the swim test to abide by this ratio.
Unuccessful Completion of a Swim Test:
- If unsuccessful, children must remain in the shallow end with a guardian in the water within arm’s reach.
- Without lifejackets: 1 guardian per 2 children (maximum).
- With lifejackets: 1 guardian per 6 children (maximum).
- Children within this age group are restricted from deep end use regardless of swimming ability or use of a personal floatation device.
Individuals Ages 10+
- Swimmers may swim unaccompanied, but may be asked to complete a Swim Test at any time at the discretion of a lifeguard.
