Enjoy time on the ice with options for all ages and skill levels. Public skating and shinny are offered on a convenient drop-in basis, providing a flexible and welcoming way to stay active, build skills, and connect with the community.

  • Children are required to wear a C.S.A. approved helmet
  • It is recommended that adults also wear a C.S.A. approved helmet while on the ice
  • Use of personal sledges is permitted
  • No horseplay
  • Not permitted on the ice:
    • Strollers
    • Carriages
    • Chairs
    • Pylons
    • Hockey sticks and pucks

Opening Conditions

  • Outdoor rinks open based on weather conditions. A solid base requires packed, moisture-rich snow followed by at least one week of consistent cold temperatures (-10°C or below). Staff monitor conditions closely and begin flooding when appropriate.

Maintenance

  • Rinks are maintained daily, weather permitting. After snowfall, staff clear and flood surfaces starting at 7:00 a.m. This process may take up to five hours depending on conditions.

Lighting

  • Hillcrest Park rink features user-activated lighting (button located on the post near the white container), which turns off between 10pmg to 11pm. Other rinks have general park lighting only.

Curling Pads

Located at J.B. Tudhope Memorial Park, the Barnfield Point Recreation Centre is home to the Orillia Curling Club and features six sheets of ice that are active throughout the winter season.
